Books 'n' Bites - “The Dinner” by Herman Koch

January 9, 2019

Join us each month for a fun and lively book club experience! enjoy the beauty of nature through a window & join in a discussion of the book of the month over light refreshments.

The selection for the month of January is… “The Dinner” by Herman Koch

Two brothers and their wives meet for dinner at a fashionable restaurant in Amsterdam. Behind their polite conversation, terrible things need to be said, and with every forced smile and every new course, the knives are being sharpened. Each couple has a fifteen-year-old son. The two boys are united by their accountability for a single horrific act; an act that has triggered a police investigation and shattered the comfortable, insulated worlds of their families. As the dinner reaches its culinary climax, the conversation finally touches on their children. As civility and friendship disintegrate, each couple show just how far they are prepared to go to protect those they love.

Skiing Book Club

January 11, 2019

Vail Public Library’s (VPL) Skiing Book Club takes readers to the slopes for an active book club. We meet in the area between the water fountain near Bistro 14 and Gondoly's Pizza at the top of Eagle's Nest Gondola, to talk books and then ski (we intend to ski blue, groomed slopes)! In Mar., look for VPL staffers, Mary McDougall and Jo Norris. Attendees must have their own ski pass, the library will not be providing lift tickets or refreshments. Our Skiing Book Club is a fun, social outing, but at the same time you are getting the mental and physical activity essential to a healthy brain.

Evenings of Engagement with A.J. Fullerton

January 30, 2019

Raised as an only child in the mountains of rural Western Colorado, A.J. was brought up surrounded by numerous styles of music ranging from; Rock, Folk, Bluegrass, Roots, & Blues. His biggest musical influences ended up being found in his parents' collection of Classic Rock & Blues records. Playing solo, and in local bands throughout his mid-teens, by age 19 he was playing full-time supporting his rapidly developing solo career. His style of playing falls somewhere between the finger picking & slide of Country Roots music, and the groove based uptempo sensibilities of Blues and Rock & Roll.
