Reading Buddies

November 29, 2018

Reading Buddies is a free Vail Public Library program that pairs trained teen volunteers with younger kids for a one-on-one reading experience. Little Buddies do not need to be struggling readers to benefit from this program. Reading Buddies offers a chance for friendship while providing another set of attentive ears for our young readers. Little buddies should be in grades Kindergarten, 1 and 2. Big Buddies should be in grades 7 - 12.

Contact Cricket for an application to be either a Big Buddy or a Little Buddy! We are currently recruiting for our Fall Session. The next session begins Thu., Oct.11. It will continue weekly through Dec. 6. We meet from 4:15 to 5:15pm.

Big Buddies need to interview and be trained by early Oct. If you are interested, please contact Cricket at cpylman@vailgov.com or 970-479-2179 to be ready for the next session.

Traditional Piñata Workshop

December 18, 2018 December 20, 2018

As a part of the Vail Public Library's program in cultural diversity, we will be hosting a three day Traditional Piñata Workshop. The goal of this fun, engaging three day workshop is to give the public an opportunity to learn about one of many fascinating Mexican traditions. Participants will gather in teams of four members to create piñatas made from such materials as clay pots, newspapers, gloss and tissue paper. It will take all three days to complete a piñata, so your team has to be present all three days. Please, RSVP to Sandy Rivera at srivera@vailgov.com or to 970-479-2331. Space is limited.
