  • LED LIGHTBULB SWAP THE ENTIRE MONTH OF MARCH

    Looking for a free and easy way to take climate action? 
    The Town of Vail has partnered with the Climate Action Collaborative and Eagle County Government to host an LED bulb swap at  Vail Public Library the entire month of March.  All Eagle County residents are invited to save money and cut climate pollution by exchanging two inefficient old-tech lightbulbs for two high-efficiency LEDs.

    Each resident is encouraged to bring in two incandescent or compact-florescent bulbs and exchange them for two LED bulbs free of charge at the Vail Public Library anytime during regular hours of operation.

    The LED lightbulbs produce a warm white light and are dimmable, so they are ideal for living room lamps and kitchens. Replacing two LED bulbs saves $16 per year on electric bills and cuts 230 pounds of air pollution. Switching to LED lighting is one of the easiest and lowest-cost ways to reduce air pollution.

    Ray has been out in the field capturing pikas and counting birds among other things. Adventure is a word that includes triumphs and mishaps of any fieldwork. She will entertain us with some of the ups and downs of spending time in some of the most fragile and changing ecosystems.

    Ray studies and models the dynamics of plant and animal populations, focusing especially on threatened species with fragmented populations. Her long-term project involves research on the American Pika, a species most impacted by alpine climate change. Other recent projects include modeling bird population trends in National Parks of the Pacific Northwest, analyzing how plant community assembly is affected by ecological interactions among species, and modeling the dynamics of plague in prairie dog communities. She emphasizes outreach and education in connection with her research, mentoring students at all levels and acting as a scientific advisor for citizen science projects focused on the American pika, such as the Front Range Pika Project organized by the Denver Zoo and Rocky Mountain Wild.

    Vail Public Library's Gentle Yoga Class, taught by Anne Anderson, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Registered with Yoga Alliance, Professional Ski Instructor of America at Vail, is appropriate for those who want a softer, nurturing, slow-paced, well-supported and relaxing practice. The approach  includes carefully orchestrated movements, controlled pressure, and well-measured stretches, including range of motion exercises. Postures may be approached in gradual steps, with plenty of time to focus on breathing and repetition so that the practice is simple to do and easy to remember.

    Gentle yoga style encourages a highly individualized approach to practice with on-going encouragement to make moment-to-moment adjustments.
