July 6, 2022Join us! back this summer on our back lawn for our first outdoor concert featuring
Rupert Wates
Rupert Wates was born in London and studied at Oxford University. In the late 1990s, he signed a publishing deal with Eaton Music and worked for several years as their house songwriter. He moved to Paris in 2001, formed his own quartet and performed regularly in the city's clubs. He came to the US in the fall of 2006. Since then he has received more than forty songwriting and performing awards. He has been a Finalist in the Kerrville New Folk Song Contest, and an Emerging Artist at Falconridge Folk Festival . His music is an eclectic mix of acoustic, melodic art/folk, with flavors of jazz, vaudeville and cabaret. Despite Wates' British background, and underpinning the universality of his music's appeal, Folk And Acoustic Music Exchange has called him "a prime figure in American music''.
Bring your own chair, all of our events are held outdoors on our back lawn.
You can bring your own food and beverages.Depending on the weather forecast, the location of the event will be changed to the library's community room.

July 13, 2022Join us each month for a fun and lively virtual book club experience!
We meet on the second Wednesday of the month via Zoom.
Email Lori Barnes at lbarnes@vailgov.com for an invitation to the monthly Books ‘n’ Bites. When, in 1922, thirty-year-old Count Alexander Rostov is deemed an unrepentant aristocrat by a Bolshevik tribunal, he is sentenced to house arrest in the Metropol, a grand hotel near the Kremlin. An indomitable man of erudition and wit, Rostov must now live in an attic room as some of the most tumultuous decades in Russian history unfold. Unexpectedly, the Count’s reduced circumstances provide him entry into a world of emotional discovery as he forges friendships with the hotel’s denizens. But when fate puts the life of a young girl in his hands, he must draw on all his ingenuity to protect the future she deserves. Hailed for its humor, intrigue, and beautifully rendered scenes, this singular novel casts a spell as it relates the Count’s endeavor to become a man of purpose.

July 27, 2022Very Young Composers, a program of YouthPower365 in partnership with the New York Philharmonic and The Playground Ensemble, allows students of all backgrounds to create their own musical pieces from start to finish, during a week-long workshop. With the help of teaching artists, students learn to compose for different instruments, write a short story, and set the story to music in a step-by-step process. The program will culminate in a public performance by professional musicians of all the student compositions. This program was brought to Vail in 2006 by its creator, Jon Deak of the New York Philharmonic. No previous music experience is necessary, the only requirement for entrance is a love of music and a willingness to engage in it.
