Books 'n' Bites - Like Water for Chocolate

5:00 pm 6:30 pm
July 11, 2018

The selection for the month of July is...  Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel

In a style that is epic in scope yet intensely personal in focus, Laura Esquivel's Like Water For Chocolate tells the story of Tita De La Garza, the youngest daughter in a family living in Mexico at the turn of the twentieth century. Through twelve chapters, each marked as a "monthly installment" and thus labeled with the months of the year, we learn of Tita's struggle to pursue true love and claim her independence. Each installment features a recipe to begin each chapter. The structure of Like Water For Chocolate is wholly dependent on these recipes, as the main episodes of each chapter generally involve the preparation or consumption of the dishes that these recipes yield. The details of additional secondary recipes are woven throughout the narrative.

Book Signing with local author, Jane Parnell

5:30 pm
July 19, 2018

Jane Parnell will speak about and sign her new book, "Off Trail: Finding My Way Home in the Colorado Rockies"

Jane Parnell took to mountaineering in the Rocky Mountains as a means to overcome her family's history of mental illness and the trauma of her past. By age thirty she became the first woman to climb the state’s 100 highest peaks. While regaining her footing could not save her failing marriage, the mountains were the one anchor in her life that held. "Off Trail" shows us how, by pushing ourselves to the limits of our endurance and by confronting our deepest fears, we can become whole again.

This may be the yoga class you’re looking for. Here we cultivate compassion for ourselves and others. Though it’s a gentle workout, the emphasis is on working in. This inward focus unites the mind, body & Spirit in an atmosphere of community and collaboration, not competition. Balance, strength and flexibility improve while experiencing deep relaxation. You’ll feel a lightness of being from this powerful and healing practice. Taught by Anne Anderson, Certified Kripalu Yoga Teacher, Registered with Yoga Alliance, Professional Ski Instructor of America at Vail; Lionshead Adults, Reiki II Practitioner and Founder of Snowga, a yoga practice on the slopes created to calm the mind and transform the ski experience; less fear, more fun.
