Reading Buddies is a free Vail Public Library program that pairs trained teen volunteers with younger kids for a one-on-one reading experience. Little Buddies do not need to be struggling readers to benefit from this program. Reading Buddies offers a chance for friendship while providing another set of attentive ears for our young readers. Little buddies should be in grades Kindergarten, 1 and 2. Big Buddies should be in grades 7 - 12.
Contact Cricket for an application to be either a Big Buddy or a Little Buddy! We are currently recruiting for our Fall Session. The next session begins Thu., Oct.11. It will continue weekly through Dec. 6. We meet from 4:15 to 5:15pm.

Mark Lemon is a product of the West. He was born in Sun Valley ID, then raised in Littleton CO. Lemon was brought up with a love of skiing, cycling, climbing and other outdoor activities. This led him to put down roots in the Eagle River Valley in 1978. He always drew and started painting as a child, but pursued art in earnest in 1990. Inspired by western themes, Mark paints plan-air and in his studio in Eagle full time for the past 12 years. His new work can be seen at the Vail public Library Dec. 1- 15th.

One Book One Valley Kickoff Event @ The Bookworm of Edwards

What if everyone in Eagle Valley read the same book at the same time? During the next few months, Vail Public Library, The Bookworm of Edwards, the staff of Colorado Mountain College & the local high school libraries are encouraging the community to do just that by participating in the Annual One Book One Valley community-wide reading initiative. The book selected for 2019 will be officially announced during the kick-off party at The Book Worm of Edwards.

It has grown into a world-wide effort to encourage further participation and interest in the field of computer science. Natalie Spears is a folk music vocalist who also plays a variety of instruments including the bass, banjo, and piano. Raised on Jazz, Blues, and Folk music, her own music is a reflection of these diverse styles. Learning to play the piano at the age of five, Natalie's love of Old Time music would later flourish into a full-fledged passion and a rewarding career. This event is free and open to the public.

Join us! for an evening of holiday harp music with soloist, Margot Krimmel. An award-winning musician, Margot began her music career right here in Vail, playing the harp for the guests of the Sonnenalp Hotel. She now resides in the Boulder area and teaches this unique instrument to over 25 students. This session is free and open to the public.
Join Vail Public Library and Santa himself for our annual family holiday party, taking place in the fireside lounge. This fun-filled event is open to children of all ages who wish to visit with Santa Claus. While waiting to meet with Santa, kids are welcome to participate in making arts and crafts. Santa takes his time with each child who visits with him, so patience is of the utmost importance.
Babies and toddlers are welcome to meet with Santa on Fri., Dec. 14th, from 11am - 12:30pm in the community room.
We offer this next-day session in the community room for children who are under 3-years-old and who may benefit from meeting Santa in a calm, daytime setting. Toys will be available to play with and snacks will be offered so that waiting can be just as enjoyable as meeting with Santa.

Nancy is a long time Vail artist & has been exhibiting her paintings at Vail Public Library each year for the past fourteen years. She seeks to express rhythm & its colors in her paintings to reflect the beauty of nature, particularly in the landscapes of Colorado. Nancy went on to major in art in college and to teach art in schools for six years. She spent another six years absorbing the British countryside, hiking in the rain and viewing works of the great English landscape artists in the galleries of London. Rondeau has spent the past 30 years enjoying the Colorado landscape as a painter, hiker, and volunteering at Betty Ford Alpine Gardens.

The goal of this fun, engaging three day workshop is to give the public an opportunity to learn about one of many fascinating Mexican traditions. Participants will gather in teams of four members to create piñatas made from such materials as clay pots, newspapers, gloss and tissue paper. It will take all three days to complete a piñata, so your team has to be present all three days. Please, RSVP to Sandy Rivera at srivera@vailgov.com or to 970-479-2331. Space is limited.

My art is colorful, fun, expressive, abstract! That is how I, a lifelong Eagle County resident, describes my artwork… First steps to creating my art.. I practice with a variety of mediums to mediums range from colored marker, colored pencil, watercolor, and oil pastel. My final finished pieces are always made with many layers of acrylic or oil paint, either canvas or cut wood.
