Virtual Books 'n Bites : November Classics “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Brontë

November 8, 2023

“November Classics" continue as we turn our attention to Emily Brontë.

In November, our Books ‘n Bites title is the classic "Wuthering Heights"

Email Sandy at lbarnes@vail.gov to receive an invitation to the Zoom meeting.

Emily Brontë’s only novel endures as a work of tremendous and far-reaching influence. The Penguin Classics edition is the definitive version of the text, edited with an introduction by Pauline Nestor. Lockwood, the new tenant of Thrushcross Grange, situated on the bleak Yorkshire moors, is forced to seek shelter one night at Wuthering Heights, the home of his landlord. There he discovers the history of the tempestuous events that took place years before. What unfolds is the tale of the intense love between the gypsy foundling Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw. Catherine, forced to choose between passionate, tortured Heathcliff and gentle, well-bred Edgar Linton, surrendered to the expectations of her class. As Heathcliff’s bitterness and vengeance at his betrayal is visited upon the next generation, their innocent heirs must struggle to escape the legacy of the past.

Mountains of Books - Kids Book Club

November 13, 2023

Kids talk about books and participate in engaging activities related to the books.

We meet on the second Wednesday of the month, during the school year, in the library's community room. Open to kids ages 7-12.

RSVP at MSingleton@vail.gov

Parents are welcome, but not required, to attend.

Tumtum and Nutmeg just want to live out their comfy lives in peace, unbothered by anything as distracting as an adventure. But the holidays are upon them, and it seems to be the time of year when Arthur and Lucy, the disheveled human children of Rose Cottage, and bumbling veteran hero General Marchmouse are most likely to get into trouble. Tumtum and Nutmeg want to make things right, but first they'll have to outwit a wicked mouse named Purple Claw, face a crazed circus ringmaster, and even save Christmas!

Views from the Ascent
Artist Traci O’Connor  has recently focused her skills on capturing unique
flowers in their natural landscapes along with the animals that make those
landscapes their home.
This current show highlights photos from Summit and Eagle County, taking a
more contemporary view of traditional mountain wildflowers. Those flowers
are accompanied by some of Traci’s favorite landscapes and mountain animals
regularly found on her weekly mountain treks.
