Category: Adults Books 'n' Bites -"Mansfield Park" & Lecture

November 14, 2018

Join Vail Public Library for a month long celebration of Jane Austen’s “Mansfield Park.” Continuing our annual tradition, and offering the last book of this fantastic author for November's Books 'n' Bites. The heroine of the novel, "Mansfield Park," is Fanny Price, who is adopted into the household of her wealthy uncle, Sir Thomas Bertram. Soon after her arrival, Sir Thomas Bertram travels to Antigua to address estate business. Mary Crawford and her brother, Henry, arrive at Mansfield, bringing with them London glamor as well as the seductive taste for flirtation and theater that precipitates a crisis. While "Mansfield Park" appears in some ways to continue where "Pride and Prejudice" left off, it is, a much darker work, which even challenges the social norms relating to the British era of slavery.

During this evening's session, we will be joined by English Professor, Dustin Doss, M.A . Doss graduated from the University of Tulsa with a B.A. in English and History as well as Women and Gender Studies, with a focus in Victorian era literature.
