Category: Adults Kim Cope Tait- Author Visit/Book Talk

March 4, 2015

Join the Vail Public Library for a book launch with local writer, yogi and teacher, Kim Cope Tait, for her new title “Bend the Blue Sky.” Meghann Faye Carroll, narrator of “Bend the Blue Sky,” is the granddaughter and spitting image of Esther "Violet" Carroll. Violet's story is one of tragedy and pathos, of the splintering of lives in the wake of her husband's disappearance during the Korean War. An F-86 Sabre Jet pilot, Charlie Carroll's status moves from MIA to KIA in the customary space of a year from 1952 to 1953. What follows spans the distance between that loss and Meg's own engenderment. It is the story Meg invents for her grandmother, intertwined with her own. It is the truth bound up in fiction. Meg's narration alternates between her own story and that of Violet, admittedly partly invented in the absence of facts, until finally the stories collide. Kim Cope Tait recently located to Vail by way of Vermont, Hawaii, California, New Zealand, and Switzerland. Trained in the Amherst Writers & Artists method of leading writing workshops and holding an M.F.A. in Poetry from Vermont College of Fine Arts, Tait is an accomplished teacher of writing. Her own works have appeared in literary journals and magazines in the U.S. and abroad.
