"It seems to me the book has not just aesthetic values-- the charming little clothy box of the thing, the smell of the glue, even the print, which has its own beauty. But there's something about the sensation of ink on paper that is in some sense a thing, a phenomenon rather than an epiphenomenon. I can't break the association of electric trash with the computer screen. Words on the screen give the sense of being just another passing electronic wriggle."

—John Hoyer Updike (b. 1932) American writer, Rabbit, Run, Rabbit at Rest

The time has come to DIY @ your library! Join the Vail Public Library for fun DIY (Do It Yourself) projects during Teen Tech Week, the Young Adult Library Services Association’s (YALSA) annual celebration of digital literacy and technology via the library.

Teen Tech Week, March 9-15, 2014, with a theme of DIY @ your library, provides an opportunity for teens to come in and learn something new. We will be offering a variety of options teens can choose from to explore and create. We are debuting our new 3D printer and related software to program it. Why not explore Photoshop, create your own remote control with MakeyMakey, or just play with code. Collaborate on projects with friends or satisfy your individual curiosity. We provide the space and tools, all you need to do is come! There will be an open lab for teens to stop by throughout the week, registration is not required. The lab will be open to teens on Mon. Mar. 10 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Tue. March 11 from 4:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., and Wed. Mar. 12 from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.
