"History is a living horse laughing at a wooden horse. History is a wind blowing where it listeth. History is no sure thing to bet on. History is a box of tricks with a lost key. History is a labyrinth of doors with sliding panels, a book of ciphers with the code in a cave of the Saragossa sea. History says, if it pleases, Excuse me, I beg your pardon, it will never happen again if I can help it."

—Carl Sandburg (1878-1967) American writer known for free verse, Smoke and Steel

Elaine's first Vail Valentine was a special one-of-a-kind gift for the man in her life, Frank McCluer. Inspired by the move to Eagle County and the man who brought her out here, Elaine painted a watercolor Valentine for him. It became a tradition and every year she has created a new card, each with a skiing or snow theme and a heart. Since then she has printed the cards and made them avaiable for sale in shops around Vail. Exhibit runs through February 15th and is open to the public during library hours (exclusive of meetings/events).
